Watch: 2017 Audi R8 Coupe Sport Edition revealed in New York Auto Show

The new Audi Sport performance division is mostly an exercise in rebranding—it’s the new name for Audi’s Quattro performance subsidiary—but we’re okay with that if it means we get cool special editions like this new Audi Sport version of the R8. With several unique visual cues and a richly trimmed interior, this extra-special R8 is an exclusive proposition, as only 200 units will be built worldwide.

The most noticeable elements of the R8 Audi Sport Edition are the bright red side blades, which present a striking contrast with the subdued silver color (black and white paint options also are available). The side mirrors are red, too, as are the brake calipers and several interior trim pieces, including a red stripe on the steering wheel at 12 o’clock of the kind you’ll find on race cars. Attractive 10-spoke wheels are finished in gloss black and feature silver accents with a subtle Audi Sport logo. Black and red nappa leather adorns the sport seats, and other special interior touches include embossed R8 logos on the seats, illuminated doorsills with a “1/200” inscription, and dark silver stitching.

Audi will offer this special edition in either the 540-hp R8 V10 or the 610-hp R8 V10 Plus configurations, but the droptop R8 Spyder gets left out of the fun. Orders open in May, so Audi superfans around the world will have to act quickly to get one of the 200 copies on offer. If that doesn’t work out, U.S. buyers can take solace in the fact that several new Audi Sport models will launch in the States within the next two years.
