2019 Audi A7 Test Car Catches Fire During Testing In Austria

The Audi A7 shown above briefly became the hottest hatchback around while it was out testing in Austria. The photos show that the car was pulling some sort of trailer, so it was probably being tested for trailer capacity and capability. Unfortunately, the test didn’t go too well.

The spy photographer who caught this car tells us the fire started under the hood, and the occupants pulled over and hopped out as soon as they noticed. A roadside assistance van came by, and the driver attempted to put out the fire with an extinguisher, but it wasn’t enough. The photographer tells us that the car was destroyed in 15-20 minutes. And “destroyed” is no exaggeration based on the photos.

Fortunately, no one was hurt. Unfortunately for us, this prototype doesn’t reveal anything more about the upcoming A7. The bodywork, before being engulfed in flames, was the same as the current model. The only difference to the present A7 was the addition of fender flares. Since the new car will have a completely different body, we don’t think the flares are especially meaningful except to indicate the new car will be a bit wider.
