Audi RS3
The hot cars created by Audi’s performance division (formerly known as Quattro GmbH, now called Audi Sport) often have been as expensive as they are awesome. Witness the $55,450 2017 RS3 sedan, the entry point to Ingolstadt’s go-fast inner circle. Employing an arsenal of handling hardware and a stonking inline-five engine, it is one of the most formidable—and priciest—small cars on the market
Take one look at the RS3, from its large front air intakes to the massive tailpipes, and you know it’s ready to rock. With a 400-hp turbocharged 2.5-liter five-cylinder under the hood, this 10Best Cars winner has the muscle to back up its menacing appearance. A seven-speed dual-clutch automatic routes torque to all four wheels; in our testing, the RS3 hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds

Porsche Carrera S
It has a lot to do with the Carrera S’s new twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six. Smooth, snarly, and wildly powerful, this Halliburton case of an engine scoots the 911 to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds thanks to the brilliant launch control built into the Sport Chrono package and the dual-clutch automatic transmission (PDK in Porsche-speak). Select Sport or Sport Plus mode, hold the brake with your left foot and floor the accelerator with your right foot, and the engine revs to 6200 rpm. Release the brake and the car launches with nearly the same surge as the all-wheel-drive Turbo.
