Audi R8 is the ‘2016 World Performance Car’

As well As the reveal of the Audi R8 V10 spyder, the New York International Auto show also saw the R8 Coupé crowned  ‘2016 world Performance Car’ in the world Car Awards, which were presented during the show. Now with a total of four awards, the R8  is the most successful model in the history of the world Car Awards. Its predecessor had already taken home two world Performance Car awards and a world Car Design of the Year award in the prestigious competition. Now the second generation of the highperformance sports car has won over the international jury of 73 leading automotive journalists, making the Audi R8 a winner on the road as well as on the racetrack. ‘with its distinctive design, its driving dynamics and its closeness to racing, the R8 is one of the strongest calling cards for the four rings and is the flagship car from Audi sport. The first generation of the R8 paved our way toward becoming a premium brand and raised the aura of Audi to a new level. The new R8 will continue this success story and further accelerate the growth strategy of Audi sport,’ said Dietmar Voggenreiter, Board Member for sales and Marketing at Audi AG. The R8 was chosen from among a shortlist of three finalists, also including the Honda Civic Type R and the Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe. Also on the shortlist were the Chevrolet Camaro, Range Rover sport sVR, Audi Rs 3 sportback, BMw X5 M / X6 M and the Cadillac ATs-V. The Mazda MX-5 was awarded the world Car Design of the Year and the overall title of the world Car Award, for which the Audi A4 saloon / Avant had also been a top-three finalist, along with the Mercedes Benz GlC. The Audi Q7 had been among the top three in the world luxury Car category, which was won by the BMw 7-series.
